Barcelona looks beyond Covid to work with golf tour operators
In an interview on the IAGTO News Channel this week, Ian Denham, Director of Barcelona Golf Travel, set out how this globally renowned tourism city is well prepared for when international golf travel resumes.
Barcelona Golf Destination was established only 18 months ago and is an association of 7 golf courses, with one, Real Club de Golf El Prat, having 36 holes. Despite all courses being within a 30-minute drive of the city centre, Ian was quick to point out that they have access to the courses at the weekends as well as on weekdays, even if on some courses Saturday access might be after midday.
The great attraction of Barcelona is of course the city itself, with its Gaudi architecture, footbal at the Nou Camp stadium, Grand Prix and Motor GP, as well as the Penedes wine region famous for Cava and oak-aged reds including the Torres brand.
The international El Prat airport is only a 10-15 minute drive from the city and Ian Denham expects to benefits from a quick return to increased uplift from all key markets when airlines focus on high volume and profitable routes post-Covid.
Barcelona has global appeal and Barcelona Golf Destination will look beyond Europe to attract golf tour operators business from North America and Asia, with direct services provided by American Airlines, Delta, Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Qatar Airways to mention just a few.
The 7 golf courses of Barcelona Golf Destination are:
Real Club de Golf El Prat
Club de Golf Terramar
Club de Golf Llavaneras
Club de Golf Vallromanes
Golf Montanyà
Club de Golf Barcelona
Golf La Roca
