Golf Torrequebrada celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2026

In 2026, Golf Torrequebrada will celebrate its 50th anniversary, marking half a century as one of the most iconic and respected golf courses on the Costa del Sol.

Founded in 1976, the course has remained true to its distinctive identity, continuing to impress and inspire golfers’ generation after generation.

Designed by José Gancedo, internationally known as the Picasso of Golf, Golf Torrequebrada is renowned for a visionary and timeless layout. Its defining feature is the variety and individuality of each hole, with no two fairways alike. The course encourages players to think creatively, enjoy the game and use most of the clubs in their bag, combining strategy, precision and enjoyment throughout the round.

All of this unfolds within an exceptionally natural setting. Surrounded by more than one hundred species of trees, lakes and strategically placed bunkers, the course is affectionately known by many as “the garden”. The striking contrast between sea and mountains, with the Mediterranean always in view, makes every round a memorable visual and sporting experience.

From its early years, Golf Torrequebrada established itself as a venue for major golfing events. In 1979, the course had the honour of hosting the 53rd edition of the Spanish Open, where South African Dale Hayes claimed victory. That championship brought together some of the great names of international golf, including Bernard Gallacher, Sandy Lyle, Nick Price, Tony Jacklin, Bernhard Langer and Sam Torrance.

This European Tour event, together with its predecessor in 1978, the Spanish Under-25 Championship, won by Severiano Ballesteros, generated countless anecdotes that remain part of the club’s living history.

Golf Torrequebrada founded and hosted the Spanish Interclub Junior Championship – Manuel Montero Memorial for its first 22 years. Fondly remembered by many, the event brought together young talents who would later shape the history of the game, including José María Olazábal, Sergio García, Rafael Carrera Bello and Emma Carrera Bello.

Located in Benalmádena, at the heart of the Costa del Sol, the course is just 20 minutes from Málaga Airport and close to the beach, marina and a wide range of hotels and leisure options. Its clubhouse, with panoramic views over the course and the Mediterranean Sea, completes the experience, offering services such as a Pro Shop, locker rooms, terrace, bar-restaurant and meeting facilities.

Looking ahead to 2026, Golf Torrequebrada celebrates 50 years of history, design and golfing excellence, reaffirming its unique character: a course where the game is enjoyed in all its dimensions, perfectly integrated into an outstanding natural environment between the sea and the mountains. A course that stays in your mind, and one you always want to return to.
