Today marked an important milestone for the Slieve Russell as we officially launched Ireland’s first Dementia Friendly Hotel.
We were honoured to welcome Minister for Older Persons and Housing Kieran O’Donnell TD, Andy Heffernan from the Alzheimer’s Society, councillors and members of Cavan County Council, local representatives, and families and friends of people living with dementia.

This has been a long journey for the hotel and a proud moment for everyone involved. Our Dementia Champions have led the way with genuine care and commitment. Their training, insight and dedication have shaped everything from the guest experience to staff awareness and support. They deserve huge credit for helping us reach this point.
Thanks to Minister O’Donnell and Andy Heffernan CEO of The Alzheimer Society of Ireland for speaking at the event, and to our kitchen and banqueting teams who created a beautiful lunch for our guests.
It was a day of reflection and celebration for the entire Slieve Russell community.
Thank you to everyone who played a part in making this vision a reality. The work continues, and we are committed to offering a warm, welcoming and supportive space for guests and families living with dementia.
