RATHFARNHAM – “the variety of the holes only adds to the intrigue of the course”… DG IRELAND TOP150 – 2025

RATHFARNHAM – DG IRELAND TOP150 – 2025

Editor, Kevin Markham

Rathfarnham combines a variety of holes thanks to an intriguing 116-year evolution, that saw the club jump from 9 to 14 to 15 to 18 holes. It only became an 18-hole course when six new holes (three brand new, three upgraded) opened in 2015. The variety of
the holes only adds to the intrigue of a course that lies at the foot of the Dublin Mountains. There are dense evergreen corridors and open hillsides, colourful trees, sweet ponds and lazy doglegs.
You’ll even be required to drive over an old mill on the 9th. Swans call this place home so you can be sure that water plays a significant part in your day, especially in the middle of your round where you will be intimidated on a number of holes. But the way
to play Rathfarnham is with strategy in mind. It is not long so this is a course to be out-thought… not overpowered.

FAVOURITE HOLE
The par four 3rd fires out of the trees onto a low fairway that
curls right.
WHAT’S IN THE BAG?
Holes change pace constantly…so be patient.
