Fermoy is joyful, exuberant, unpretentious and exhilarating golf.

DG IRELAND TOP150 – 2023

Editor, Kevin Markham

As a country course, many golfers have probably never heard of it and would simply drive by as it doesn’t have the name or recognition required to turn heads. That’s a shame because Fermoy is all about the fun that makes golf such a wonderful game to play. You’ll find it at Birr, at Strandhill, at Scrabo and at Rathcore, and here in the hills of north-east Co. Cork.

Laced with attractive pine trees and a landscape that twists and buckles over
hilly, heather-strewn terrain, the further into the round you go, the more you get the feeling of being tossed about like a boat in a squall. The front nine have some sweet elevation changes, making the most of them with smart tee box and green settings, while the back nine offer views over countryside and some deep rolling chasms. It may not have the smart frills of Ireland’s glamorous
courses, but spend a day at Fermoy and enjoy the adventure.
It will be worth every cent.

Favourite Hole
The par four 1st is one of those sweet, short and
straight par fours with a green perched up high.
It is so inviting and sets the mood.

What’s in the Bag?
Despite a modest par 70 (five par threes),
Fermoy plays surprisingly long. Use the slopes
to your advantage.
