Carton House

Carton is home to two magnificent golf courses, The O’Meara, a stunning parkland spread and The Montgomerie, a unique “inland links” style creation. The transformation of the estate into a first-class golf resort began in 1999. In 2002, the first phase of the development saw the opening of the Mark O’Meara course. This gorgeous parkland spread makes splendid use of the historic demesne’s rolling hills, specimen trees and the River Rye. Feature holes include the 13th, 14th and 15th – a pair of par 3s wrapped around a heroic par 5 – crossing the lazy loops of the River Rye. The opportunity to gamble is paramount as is the sense of tranquillity that the holes create.
Quite different yet complimentary to The O’Meara, is The Montgomerie, opened in June 2003. This magnificent course was Montgomerie’s second course design – his first in Ireland and the UK. Monty said of it: “This is a unique project and I am privileged to be associated with it. You can’t call it a links course, but it plays like a links and has all the characteristics of a links. In designing this course, I attempted to go back to a more traditional course.”
The Montgomerie was home to the 2005 & 2006 Irish Open and encourages strategic play. At full stretch – 7,300 yards – this links-style creation is championship stuff.
The opportunity to entertain valued clients on the magnificent estate has made Carton House one of Ireland’s most popular corporate golf venues in recent years. The outstanding quality of the courses in terms of design and upkeep and the service golfers receive from the moment they arrive at Carton are the resort’s biggest selling points. The commitment to excellence is evident from all quarters. A clubhouse opened in 2004, providing golfers with all the modern facilities to be expected of one of Ireland’s top golf clubs, and the opening of a 165-bedroom hotel, conference and spa facility in June this year has put Carton firmly on the map as one of Europe’s most sought after golf destinations. www.cartonhouse.com
