TERRAS DA COMPORTA TAKES TOP SPOT IN NEW PORTUGUESE GOLF COURSE RANKING

Terras da Comporta has made a flying start to 2026 with both its golf courses featuring prominently in a respected new industry poll of the best courses in Portugal, including The Dunas Course being ranked as the country’s new number one.

In addition to The Dunas Course taking over the coveted spot at the head of the Top100GolfCourses.com website’s new list of Portugal’s Top 50 Courses, The Torre Course was placed at number 11 in the updated standings after only opening for play for the first time last summer.

Owned by Vanguard Properties, the largest real estate developer in Portugal, Terras da Comporta’s Dunas Course has earned widespread praise and headlines around the world since launching in 2023. The Sergio Garcia-designed Torre Course has wasted no time in making a similar impact since opening six months ago, while the premier golf development is set to add to its luxury offering in the near future with a wide range of sports, leisure and lifestyle amenities planned, as well as a number of premium hotels and real estate developments.

Announcing the updated ranking, the Top 100 Courses panel said: “ Portugal’s golf scene has undergone a dramatic transformation, with a course outside the Algarve claiming the number one position. The 2026 Update Top 50 reveals unprecedented movement across all regions, with the Lisbon & Central region emerging as the nation’s new powerhouse.

“Terras da Comporta (Dunas) is in the number one position, marking the first time since 2008 that a Lisbon & Central course has claimed Portugal’s top ranking after a full ranking refresh …. (and) the second Comporta layout establishes the region as Portugal’s premier new destination.”

Rodrigo Ulrich, golf general manager for Vanguard Properties, said: “What a fantastic way to start the new year! It’s always special to receive any accolade and to have both our courses rated so highly, including The Dunas being ranked number one, is very special.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our owner and CEO, Alex Berda, and all the team for all their hard work to make Terras da Comporta such an amazing place to visit. We take great pride in the golf experience that we offer to all our visitors, and recognition of this nature gives us added motivation to continue to improve in everything we do.”

The Top 100 Courses accolades follow further recent international recognition after The Torre Course was named as the ‘World’s Best New Course’ and The Dunas Course as ‘Europe’s Best Golf Course’ at the World Golf Awards 2025.

Located one hour south of Lisbon, The Dunas Course and The Torre Course are situated in a secluded setting on the edge of the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve and have been built using the highest sustainable practices.

Officially opened in October 2023, The Dunas Course – architect David McLay-Kidd’s first golf design project in mainland Europe – measures 6,646 metres off the back tees and has been created over 84 hectares of natural, sandy terrain.

Inspired by Garcia’s love of Real Club Valderrama, The Torre Course – which was officially inaugurated in October – is the European Ryder Cup legend’s first major golf course design project and features generous fairways, small greens and measures 6,575 metres from the back tees.

Owned by Vanguard Properties, Portugal’s largest real estate developer who took ownership of the development in 2019, Terras da Comporta features two large developments: Torre, comprising 365 hectares of land, and Dunas, which occupies around 1,011 hectares.

As well as two 18-hole golf courses, Terras da Comporta will boast a wide range of lifestyle and sporting facilities including tennis, padel, pickleball and horse riding. The development will also include an array of plots for hotels, tourist and residential condominiums.
