On behalf of the team, I’m excited to present Destination Golf Portugal 2025, our annual guide to Portugal’s premier golf courses, in collaboration with Visit Portugal and its regional tourism offices.
This guide is designed to help the thousands of golfers who visit Portugal each year to discover the best places to play and stay. Since our inception in 2010, we’ve become a trusted source of information for golf tourism in Portugal, reaching over 32 million traveling golfers annually.
From the mainland to the islands, Portugal’s charm in the golf tourism world lies in its varied landscapes and world-class courses. Whether it’s the Algarve with its dramatic cliffs, lakes, and golden beaches; Lisbon with its blend of history and golf; or the picturesque courses in Porto further north, there are over ninety courses to choose from. Many of these courses are Championship designs by renowned architects who’ve skilfully incorporated the natural terrain and coastline into their designs.
Ernie Els has also opened Portugal’s first private course, called The Els Club Vilamoura.
Portugal’s mild climate allows for year-round play, making it even more attractive. Beyond golf, visitors can enjoy rich culture, exquisite cuisine, and luxurious accommodations. With top-notch infrastructure and exceptional hospitality, Portugal is the perfect destination for golfers of all levels, offering an unforgettable golfing experience.
While there’s a wide range of courses to suit every skill level and budget, it’s our “Editors’ Choice” recommendations that we encourage you to pay special attention to this year.
Additionally, the beautiful island of Madeira will host the 12th annual World Golf Awards in November 2025. Known as ‘the islands of eternal spring,’ Madeira boasts a unique ecosystem and is one of the few places on earth where banana trees grow alongside vineyards.
Our team of travel editors, brand ambassadors, video presenters and photographers are constantly on the go, so be sure to follow our travels on Instagram, X, and Facebook via @DGgolfguide
Enjoy Portugal and enjoy this golf guide.
