Enniscrone – “..an exceptional links flowing through big dune country..”

DG IRELAND TOP150 – 2025

Editor, Kevin Markham

2018 saw Enniscrone celebrating 100 years. The course has had an intriguing history and the changes made by Donald Steel to Eddie Hackett’s work, in 2001, put a stamp on Enniscrone’s reputation. That reputation has been growing ever since. It is an exceptional links flowing through big dune country and overlooking Killala Bay.
The course demands your full attention the whole way around as fairways constantly mirror the shaggy dunes they run through, promising unpredictability, while the perfect greens promise all kinds of dangers around their pristine putting surfaces. You’ll encounter some startling blind shots and several unbelievable holes. The stretch from 12 to 17 is utterly captivating and you will be tossed around by the constant swell of the landscape to
the point you’ll feel dizzy. Combined with Carne, Co. Sligo and Strandhill, links golf doesn’t get better than this. The course is being invigorated with changes by Martin Ebert.

FAVOURITE HOLE
Holes 12 and 13 are two short par fours, with both of them set
to make you look a fool… but the joke’s on Enniscrone, because
you just won’t care.
WHAT’S IN THE BAG?
Trust your instincts on the blind holes and use bump-and-run
where possible. This is not a course where you want to go over
the green.
