Aroeira No.1 hosted the Open de Portugal in 1996 and 1997. In September, the championship returns to the course for its 64th edition, almost three decades later.

Aroeira No.1 recently underwent extensive improvements, including renovated tees and bunkers, modernised irrigation and more sustainable landscaping. The new irrigation system can reduce water consumption by up to 20%.
