Ring of Kerry – “..the views are endless and spectacular, with the Greenane Islands a central focus in Kenmare Bay below, as mountains ripple across every horizon”.

RING OF KERRY – DG IRELAND TOP150 – 2025

Editor, Kevin Markham

The golf course at Ring of Kerry opened in 1998. With its hillside lilt – the front nine are on much higher ground than the back nine – you won’t be surprised to hear that the views are endless and spectacular, with the Greenane Islands a central focus in Kenmare Bay below, as mountains ripple across every horizon. You also won’t be surprised by the big shots that take full advantage of the elevation changes and views. Tee shots on the 6th, 8th and 13th
are of the ‘floating in space’ variety as you wait for the ball to touch down.

This is a parkland that is coming back to its best after languishing unloved for a few years. That’s the advantage of new ownership and new attitudes, and the course is already thriving. The upgraded clubhouse, helps, too. So too the quality of the greens and you will have an entertaining adventure trying to read some big slopes and swings. One visit to the signature par-3 13th will make that abundantly clear.

FAVOURITE HOLE
The par four 6th plays from a high tee and the fairway below
curves around a pond, on the right, with the green beyond. It is
all on show.
WHAT’S IN THE BAG?
The back nine requires you to rein in your ambition as fairways
become more elusive due to the slopes of the land. A creative
short game helps.
