Lowry confirmed for 2025 Amgen Irish Open at The K Club
Past champion Shane Lowry will tee it up at The K Club next year and tickets are now on sale (link below) for the Amgen Irish Open’s return to the County Kildare venue from September 4-7, 2025.
Lowry, who made history when he won the title on his debut appearance as an amateur in 2009, will be making his 17th consecutive appearance in the island of Ireland’s national open when the tournament returns to The K Club in 2025.
The Irishman was the first amateur winner of the prestigious event and is the most recent player to win on the DP World Tour before turning professional. Ten years later, he would become a Major Champion as he claimed the Claret Jug after winning The 148th Open at Royal Portrush.
“There’s no better feeling than playing on home soil and I’m already so excited for next year’s Amgen Irish Open,” said the County Offaly man, who finished in a share of third at The K Club in 2023. “I say it all the time but the Irish fans truly are the best in the world. They are incredibly welcoming and respectful of all the golfers taking part in the tournament, not just those from Ireland.
“I’ve had some strong performances in the event over the last few years and would love nothing more than to get my hands on that trophy again.”
In his last three appearances at the Irish Open, Lowry has finished T9, T3 and T12, finishing just two strokes behind Vincent Norrman in 2023. The K Club is hosting the tournament for the third time next year and will also host the centenary edition of the event 1927.
The K Club hosted The Ryder Cup in 2006, when Ian Woosnam’s European side retained their title by a record-equalling 18½ – 9½ defeat of the United States. A decade later, in 2016, the venue hosted the Irish Open for the first time, with Rory McIlroy winning by three strokes.
The Amgen Irish Open once again assumes a key position on the DP World Tour’s Global Schedule as part of the ‘Back 9’, which encompasses nine of the Tour’s most historic tournaments and national opens. It will also form an important part of final preparations for some players for The 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage, which takes place three weeks later.
At this year’s event, Rasmus Højgaard beat McIlroy to the title by one stroke at Royal County Down, winning his fifth DP World Tour title and becoming the second-consecutive Scandinavian winner after Norrman, of Sweden, in 2023.
Højgaard joined an esteemed roll of honour, adding his name to a list of Irish Open champions that also includes Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Pádraig Harrington, Jon Rahm, Colin Montgomerie, José María Olazábal, Bernhard Langer and Sam Torrance.
