SAN ROQUE OLD COURSE

DG SPAIN 2024

Opening in 1990, The San Roque Club is set within 340 acres of peaceful and natural Andalusian landscapes with surrounded by lush hills and historic cork oak woods. The centrepiece of the club is the magnificent Domecq mansion which oozes character, part of an overall complex design between the Japanese owners and designer Dave Thomas. The legendary Old Course at The San Roque Club is steeped in history, hosting 15 consecutive European
Tour Schools from 1993-2007 and the Spanish Open in 2005. The Old course underwent a massive renovation in 2020 and 2021, with a design philosophy to construct a stadium course in anticipation of hosting major European championship events, but equally
to provide a challenge that is enjoyable for both low and high handicap players. The tricky 8th hole is often the cause of many lost shots while the 18th presents an exciting finish requiring a drive to the right avoiding water on the left then a long iron shot over a
stream to the green, avoiding a lake on the right.

Did You Know?
In 1997, San Roque hosted both the European
and American teams along with their families
during the Ryder Cup held in the neighbouring
Valderrama. The plaques featuring the names of
the players remain by the door to the suites they
occupied, even today.
