RATHSALLAGH GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB – DG IRELAND TOP150 – 2021

DG IRELAND TOP 150 – 2021
Editor, Kevin Markham

Rathsallagh

Not a single tree was felled in the design of this course… emphasising how beautifully wooded and yet spacious Rathsallagh is.

It’s like playing through a grand estate… one where tall solitary trees can prove utterly intimidating. And magnetic.

This is sweet, sometimes turbulent, Co. Wicklow countryside and that becomes immediately apparent from the clubhouse when you peer down holes 1, 9 and 18. As such, it promises plenty of variety with numerous stand-out holes (1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 11, 18).

The par four 1st (Index 1) is one of the best par fours you’ll face. The beautiful Rathsallagh House hotel overlooks the course. The introduction of a new par three and new routing in 2017 has enhanced the course’s flow.

Favourite Hole: The par four 18th is a seriously tough finishing hole, rising all the way to a tiered green. The tree on the right of the fairway has caused much angst.

What’s in the Bag? The wide variety of challenges calls for constant strategic reassessment, hole after hole.
