Japan reopening to international tourists in June

Japan reopening to international tourists in June

Timing couldn’t have been any better!

Last week, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida finally announced that Japan’s strict Covid-19 border restrictions will be gradually relaxed to align with other G7 nations. Japan could open its borders to international tourists as soon as June.

Simultaneously, Mie Prefecture, supported by its non-profit marketing organization Mie Golf Tourism Organization, has just been nominated as one of the World´s Best Emerging Golf Destinations.

Mie Prefecture, ideally located on Japan’s main island of Honshu and in between two international airports, is blessed with nature in abundance. Mountain ranges, vast protected areas and some 1,000 kilometers of Pacific coastline serve as the stunning backdrop for 68 superb golf courses. These diverse Championship courses, spread throughout the prefecture but easily accessible from anywhere in Mie, offer unrivaled value for money. Visitors can choose between Mountain and Seaside Courses, Challenging TOUR and TOP 100 Courses and enjoyable tourist friendly resort courses – all combined with a highly unique golf culture and unparalleled hospitality.

Considered Japan´s culinary capital, Mie Prefecture is a food heaven where visiting golfers can indulge in some of the best seafood and beef in the world – often even on the golf course. The prefecture´s rich culture including the country´s most sacred shrine, dubbed Japan´s Acropolis, as well as authenticity and charm paired with traditional experiences add to the highly unique golf plus experiences in Mie Prefecture.

The G7 summit 2016 was held in Mie Prefecture as well, and so was Japan´s first ever Golf Tourism Convention staged by IAGTO. In addition, Mie Golf Tourism Organization, at the forefront of Japan´s golf tourism promotion, has hosted numerous international Media Trips, Golf Tour Operator Fam- and Golf Tourism Monitor Tours and has welcomed a myriad of golfers from around the world.

Humbled and inspired by the overwhelming feedback we have received from our IAGTO friends and visiting golfers over the past 7 years, we are keen to accelerate Japan and Mie Prefecture to the next level in the upcoming months. Serving you at the highest level is our primary objective, earning your vote would be the icing on the cake!
