The Heritage Golf Resort

Editor, Kevin Markham

Much of the attention focused on The Heritage Golf Resort concentrates on the Seve Ballesteros design. It is little wonder. The enigmatic Seve still conjures up all that is enthralling about the game of golf. And plenty of that can be found here.

The course opened in 2004, and golfers are met first by the statue of the great man and then the stylish clubhouse. If you want a glimpse of two of the resort’s best holes head up to the balcony and look down on the stunning lake with the 9th and 18th wrapped on either side. Water sparkles here, and often, but
it is only one of the challenges you’ll face: this is a long course with holes flowing over the gently shaped Co. Laois countryside, weaving between an intimidating array of complex bunkers and an ever-maturing army of trees. Be grateful that landing areas are generous and there’s a good choice of tees.
The Heritage Golf Resort is maturing steadily which only adds to the vibrancy… as do the greenside bunker upgrades which are well underway.
Work has also begun on completely renovating the clubhouse building. When complete there will be 37 bedrooms, a new bar and restaurant, and a new Pro Shop.

Favourite Hole
The par four 18th is such a strong finishing
hole, curving gently left around the water which
threatens off the tee and on the approach.
What’s in the Bag?
You’ll need to drive well for the whole day.
