Wine Tourism in Centro do Portugal

Wine Tourism in Centro do Portugal

September is for fresh starts, for the adventure and the inevitable magic of new beginnings. It’s harvest time. The perfect time to produce outstanding wines and to believe in the power of renewal. In the power of creation. Mother Nature always knows best.

The territory of Center of Portugal embraces 5 fascinating wine regions: Dão, Bairrada, Beira Interior, Tejo and Lisbon wine region.

This week’s edition shows you this unique diversity, as well as sophisticated wine cellars. It’s time to harvest excellence and to plant the seeds of the future.

The wine region of Beira Interior is certainly one of the most diversified wine regions in Portugal. The area of Beira Interior wines comprises over 16 thousand hectares of vineyards, as well as great variety of vine varieties, namely the white vine varieties: Síria, Arinto and Fonte Cal and the red vine varieties: Tinta Roriz, Rufete, Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira and Jaen.

Adega 23 is located in the southernmost area of Beira Interior, placed between Gardunha Mountain and Tagus River, offering a stunning view over São Mamede Mountain and the geological landmark Portas de Ródão. Certainly this golden brick-shaped building, conceived by prestigious Atelier RUA, will catch your attention. This challenging building is situated in the highest spot of the 12 ha vineyard. What was once an agricultural warehouse is nowadays a true architectural highlight.

The wines produced by Adega 23 are very elegant, complex, fresh and expressive. These are wines from vineyards that were planted in 2015, after a thorough selection of wine varieties, that best suited the terroir and the winery’s tenets. The vineyards are planted on slopes, at approximately a 400 m. altitude. The warm, sun-drenched summers are usually blessed by cooler nights of a thermal amplitude higher than 20°C. The Winters are quite cold. The air is dry and icy. The vines endure, resist and defend themselves by producing lower quantities. However, the flavours and aromas are incredibly concentrated and rich.

Adega 23 organises several exciting experiences, such as: picnics in the vineyards; winery tours; wine tastings; wine workshops and wine-related events. A gateway to the future!
