SENTOSA’S SERAPONG SHAPES UP FOR SMBC SINGAPORE OPEN FINALE ON THE ASIAN TOUR

SENTOSA’S SERAPONG SHAPES UP FOR
SMBC SINGAPORE OPEN FINALE ON THE ASIAN TOUR

-Singapore’s Best Golf Course is ready to welcome back Asia’s best players for the first time since an extensive renovation was completed in 2020-

(Sentosa Golf Club, Singapore – 18 January 2022): One of the world’s finest courses, The Serapong at Sentosa Golf Club, is being thrust back into the spotlight this week as it prepares to host the final event on the Asian Tour’s 2021/22 Order of Merit, the SMBC Singapore Open.
Regularly ranked as one of the world’s best golf courses, The Serapong will be staging the tournament for the first time since 2020, after a two-year hiatus due to the global pandemic, and since then the course has undergone significant renovations which attending Tour Professionals will get to experience for the first time this week.

A number of key areas including the fairways, tee boxes, and greens were modified during the renovations, with the headline works welcoming a new rugged serrated edging style to all 103 bunkers, elevating the course to even higher levels to improve its consistency, texture, playability and the ‘tournament-ready’ conditions the Singapore-based golf course is known for.
Players teeing it up at this edition of the SMBC Singapore Open, including world number 28 Paul Casey, will notice how the improvements have enhanced The Serapong’s overall strategy and character, as they prepare to

experience its fast, challenging greens with trademark contours and iconic holes, including the newly redesigned sixth hole, that have made it one of Asia’s most challenging and spectacular courses.

Lining up alongside Asia’s best will be three of Singapore’s highest-rated professionals; Abdul Hadi, Jesse Yap, and Koh Dengshan; who have been sponsored by Sentosa Golf Club since 2019, as part of the Club’s wider agenda to grow the game in the ‘Lion City’.

Speaking ahead of the 2022 SMBC Singapore Open, Sentosa Golf Club General Manager, Director of Agronomy and Resident Golf Course Designer, Andrew Johnston, said: “Everyone at Sentosa Golf Club is looking forward to the return of the Singapore Open this week. Since our last hosting of the event in 2020, our team have been hard at work preparing to reveal The Serapong’s newly elevated character and personality to Asia’s best players. Although many of its iconic holes have been preserved, players will now be able to truly appreciate the state-of-the-art playing standards that have made it one of the world’s best golf courses.

“Every time the SMBC Singapore Open comes to Sentosa we are proud to showcase our skills and pride in the conditioning of the golf course, and this year will be no different, with the course’s key modifications set to allow for even more strategic and entertaining golf to encapsulate both players and fans.”

Since its last hosting of the SMBC Singapore Open, the Club has continued to make significant strides through its sustainability agenda, becoming the world’s first golf club to join the United Nation’s Sports for Climate Action Initiative. Last year it also pledged to become the first golf club in the world to become carbon neutral by 2022.

With the tournament set to get underway on Thursday, fans across the country can keep up-to-date with all the live action throughout the day on TV by tuning into the event’s official broadcast channel Hub Sport 3.
