VOLUNTEERS are being invited to take part in an award-winning project providing protection for coastline holes on Royal Dornoch’s Struie Course.
The Green Shores team based at St Andrews University have been creating natural buffers to break the power of waves on the Dornoch Firth.
They have teamed-up with the club’s greenkeeping team and youngsters from Dornoch Academy to restore degraded saltmarshes.
The next phase of planting will take place on March 24 and 25.
Dr Clare Maynard, of Green Shores, which won the 2025 Nature of Scotland Award for Coasts and Waters, said: “Restoration of the saltmarshes has been creating a buffer to coastal flooding and erosion. It is also helping with carbon storage and encouraging rare biodiversity.
“We would welcome volunteers to join us for the next phase of digging and planting later this month.”
Anyone keen to lend a helping hand should wear old, waterproof clothing and wellies, packing drinks and a snack for the 9.30am to 1pm shift.
The team will meet them at the Royal Dornoch Struie Course car park near the airstrip.
