Employees become guests as Quinta da Marinha runs five-star initiative

The Onyria Quinta da Marinha Hotel has marked the 2nd anniversary of the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in Portugal with an incredible initiative that saw all of its 247 employees and their immediate family stay as guests.

The project coincides with the anniversary of the hotel’s total refurbishment, allowing the employees to experience the new-look facilities, and restore their energy before the long-awaited return to normality in the Spring/Summer that is coming.

The amazing initiative took place between the 5th and 10th of February, as the guests and their families were able to enjoy their stay and the hotel’s different services and activities, such as hiking, yoga classes and DJ entertainment.

Lara Almeida, a receptionist at the Onyria Quinta da Marinha Hotel, said: “Contrary to what I thought, I managed to switch off and enjoy it. The stay allowed me to experience the hotel – which is my place of work – in another way.”

Gonçalo Santos of the commercial department said: “This invitation was a big surprise for all of us! We really enjoyed our time, had a great dinner and also had my first golf lesson!”
In addition to being able to appreciate all areas of the hotel, such as the gardens and pools (outdoors and indoors), spa and golf course, employees also had a set of activities prepared for the occasion such as guided walks, yoga classes, large meals and gymnastics.

Onyria was forced to postpone the opening ceremony back in March 2020, after a remodelling that involved an estimated investment of 5 million euros and saw major renovations across the facilities at the five-star resort.

João Pinto Coelho, director of the Onyria Quinta da Marinha Hotel, said: “The last two years have been extremely difficult for the hotel sector, and that is why we wanted to reward our employees for their resilience, patience, and commitment, which was essential for us to continue operating with the excellence that is recognized by us.”

Located in the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, the Onyria Quinta da Marinha Hotel allows guests to enjoy nature and tranquillity with bike rides, hikes and rounds of golf on the 18-hole course, designed by Sir Robert Trent Jones.
