Another Place, The Machrie – A New Chapter

In Summer of 2024, The Machrie entered an exciting new phase as the hotel became part of the Another Place collection and was renamed Another Place, The Machrie.

The new name reflects a new approach: keeping everything you know and love The Machrie for, but expanding the guest experience by inviting Another Place in.

Building on The Machrie’s breathtaking Islay location, world-class golf links (ranked 78th in the world), great food and drink, impressive interiors and modern art collection, Another Place has recently added a clutch of fresh experiences and spaces – as well as family lodges and dog-friendly rooms.

There’s a new outdoor relaxation and invigoration space nestled in the wild garden, with two wood-fired hot tubs, a sauna, cold plunge bath, terrace and firepit.

After a day on the championship links, guests can now wind down with a cold drink and try their hands on our new ‘social golf’ putting course, The Hebrides. With its curves and contours and twilight illumination, it brings an accessible and relaxed dimension to our golf offer.

Golf has always been – and will continue to be – at the heart of The Machrie experience. Included in the World Top 100 list, and also recently picking up the win for, Scottish Golf Hotel of the year 2023/24. With a championship links course, six-hole par 3 ‘Wee course’, The Hebrides putting course, covered driving range and Golf Academy simulator all set within the grounds, there’s something for everyone, all year round.

Beyond the hotel grounds, exhilarating island adventures await.

Will your guests spot swimming stags, seal pups and dolphins on a wildlife boat trip? Ride a fatbike along endless sands? Take a dip in the pristine waters of Kilnaughton? Watch the sunset on the wild west coast? Sink a “wee dram” or three at one of Islay’s 10 whisky distilleries?

Whether beaches, boats, bikes or bottles are more their  thing, new experiences are waiting.

Islay’s vast skies, endless beaches and warm welcome are closer than you might think – daily flights from Glasgow Airport take just 45 minutes.

Or, if time and a sense of adventure are on their side, there’s always the scenic route. The mountain and loch-skirting drive to Kennacraig comes highly recommended, followed by a ferry journey that takes in views of the Mull of Kintyre, The Paps of Jura – and, if they’re very lucky, the odd breaching minke whale.
